This was part of the commission I did for ~Kizzarina, her lovely cat Ayame was named after iris flowers (Ayame=iris in Japanese) because of her stunning blue eyes, so she asked me to make a couple of iris flowers as stud earrings they were a bit more difficult to do than I imagined, but I'm really pleased with the way they turned out.
The shape was kinda complicated and getting the colors to blend perfectly was a challenge XD but as always, the most difficult part was finding a balance between delicate thin petals and sturdiness. When I make flowers it's always a bit tricky to find out just how thin I can make the petals before they become brittle, but if I make them too thick they look clumsy. Oh dilemma. Actually when I finished the flowers I noticed that the petals were still a tiny bit flexible and I was super scared they would break some day, so I decided to add the leaves to give the petals some more structure. It ended up working great for the design as well, and I hope they will last her a good time.
Technical stuff: 100% polymer clay and handmade, no premades molds or bought parts were used. No acrylic paints were used to achieve the colors. Metal findings were bought from a local craft store. Each flower is about 1.5 cm (left size reference) or just a bit over half an inch (right size reference).
