Key Lime Pie Earrings and Pendant Set by Talty Key Lime Pie Earrings and Pendant Set by Talty

| Etsy | Custom Commissions | Facebook | YouTube | Polymer Clay Gallery

This was a commission, I was asked to do a key lime pie set of stud earrings and a pendant. My commissioner told me that she wanted them for her sister who loves the color green :) she wanted the pies with a white filling, a bright green layer and a dollop of whipped cream with a slice of lime. And every time I try to say "slice of lime" I end up saying "slime" to my boyfriend's amusement.

I'm quite happy with how they turned out, I tried a different technique for the crust this time because I wanted to make it more realistic. The earrings are super adorable, they're a bit thin because I wanted to make sure that they rest flat against the earlobe. Also this was the first time I used my hypoallergenic earrings, so I was extra happy XD

Technical stuff: All handmade by me out of polymer clay, no molds, bought items or mass produced items were used. Glaze, glue, pastel dust and metal findings were also used. The earrings are hypoallergenic titanium stud earrings. The pendant is about 2cm~0.8 inch long, the earrings are 0.9cm~.3 inch.

 Unfortunately I can relate completely - I'm seeing Sculpey, and ideas of what to make with it, every time I shut my eyes :reading:

((Wow. Just wondering, but how did you get the texture on the pie filling? And how did you get the lime so...realistic?))

Thanks! For the pie filling I poked some holes carefully with a needle to make it look spongy. And the lime well it's about getting the perfect translucent green, I had to mix several batches until I got it right! :D

wow, you've managed to recreate the spongy-like texture of the pie so well :faint:  And the tiny lime slices - omg ! I thought they were cut out from a shop-bought fimo cane, but when you said nothing here was bought ready, I'm even more amazed ! :) How did you make such the tiny slices? O>o Did you create your own cane, or is each slice put together separately (wow) Stunning work, as always, Talty

Thank you for noticing the texture! :la: And yes the tiny lime slices were made by me too, I make all my own canes :la: Well I made them the same way, except that I reduced the cane until it was small enough, it was a bit complicated but worth it.

So amazing! :meow:I wonder, do canes have to be kept in the freezer? Will they not deform when you try to cut them? *_* I have never seen an actual cane in my hand, but I heard so much about them

Well if the cane is raw you can freeze them before cutting so it doesn't deform. If they're already baked you can easily cut the slices without deforming :)

:iconunconventionalsenshi:
Oh, you can cut the baked clay O.o? I did't know :P (I knew you made chocolate chips after baking but they're less precise and stuff)It's probably because I mainly used that no-brand crappy Polish clay and trying to cut it would result in cracking the whole thing up as it's just so darn brittle once baked U_U lol :B
so normal fimo/sculpey lets you easily cut baked canes? Even if they're relatively small? Huh, *_* That's great and I'm glad I've learned something new today :D
