I know I already submitted this (forgive me) but I was looking at photos of my new work to submit, and I fell in love with this photo and this design all over again. I recently re-made the Amulet of Mara for another cosplayer, and I had forgotten how much work it is x.x but it's all worth it. After I finished this amulet, I asked my commissioner to let me wear it and take a photo because I loved it so much, something I've never done... I like to sell 100% new items, but this was too lovely to let it pass without testing it. I'm glad she let me do it, it looks completely different when it's being worn.
This photo is the first amulet I made. The second one is much better, but in ways no one else but me will notice xD it looks pretty much the same, but all the parts were put together in a much secure (and smarter ) way. If you ever attempt to do an Amulet of Mara, remember to plan how to attach everything before you ever start crafting anything, learn from my mistakes!
...new submissions coming tomorrow, sorry XD
Technical stuff: Completely handmade by me out of polymer clay. No bought pieces, no molds.
This is a really exquisite rendition of the Amulet of Mara from TES V: Skryim, both (if you excuse the pun) faithful to the original design and looking pretty to wear even as jewelry, out of a cosplay convention. The details are very fine and delicate, especially in the intricate knot patterns. The polymer clay does a good job here to replace metal, though, on the other hand using actual pearls and a cabochon of turquoise would have been a nice finish touch to bring out more bling to the set. Indeed, the blue clay looks a little dull and even in texture, where the gold is marbled. Still, the overall piece is a great success and nothing to shun for the aspiring priest of Mara.
