Dia de los Muertos Artisan Crafts FeatureAs with the Halloween feature I made, I'm a bit late... but I still think that any time is time for good art!
Some of you already know that I'm mexican and proud, and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a very important tradition for me. While it is also celebrated in other parts of Latin America I am only familiar with the traditions we have here, so I'm really sorry for not being able to represent everyone

But feel free to leave me a comment with your own traditions, I would love to read about them

In case anyone is interested some years ago I published a more or less detailed explanation on ofrendas (offerings) complete with photos. Also, I shall warn you that I consider myself a purist, and while I appreciate everyone's efforts to make art inspired by Dia de los Muertos there's some things that simply don't go with the spirit of this date, and I won't include them in this feature... for exa

Halloween Pumpkins - Round-UpNow that Halloween is done we can browse and look through all of the pumpkins that were created this year:

Even though this was submitted in April, we will consider it for this season because it is really ingenious. A smaller spider pumpkin inside the larger web pumpkin. On the outside pumpkin the web is intricate with smooth and curved lines which contrast with the larger lines on the spider of the small pumpkin.

The end product looks great but the artist even created a stencil to map out their sculpting areas. There is no mistaking that this is a beautiful carving of their school mascot Reveille the dog. Clean and jagged lines come together to give this dog emotion and realism.

Two pumpkins with classic faces, we have a scared one and toothy scary one. Not only is the lighting and mood in the photo a bit spooky but they took the extra time to carve ghosts in the back which give the pumpkins a creepy shadow that has the viewer puzzled

Crazy Crafts IV: ilkelaSometimes, someone's work is so out of the ordinary and unique that I can't help but stare at it, sit back, let it sink in, and wonder where I can get some of that inspiration. That is the case with ~ilkela's work, I think that she owns one of the most eclectic and unique galleries I've seen around, it is incredible to see someone mastering so many different crafts. I hope you'll like it as much as I do!

August Artisan Crafts DD RoundupWow how fast the time passes! I can't believe this is already my third roundup, I'm actually very happy with this month's DDs

I think I received a lot of great suggestions for unusual crafts, and I was able to feature some of the most obscure and under-recognized crafts. Please keep the awesome suggestions coming!

Remember that I'm specially interested in the original, different and non-ordinary crafts

of course I love and consider all the suggestions, but I want to get all the crafts out there. This week I'm looking for etching, knitting, embroidery and clothing.
I want to represent all the Artisan Crafts equally, so if you think that any area is not being properly represented please let me know! I think I got a good mix this month, what do you guys think?

Useless fact: I tried to pick one as my "DD of the month" and I couldn't choose my favorite, I love everything so much

Halloween Artisan Craft Features

Happy Halloween everyone! While for some of you Halloween was yesterday (it's still 31st for me), I still wanted to make a feature of awesome Artisan Crafts about Halloween, after all it's always time for good art!
